Quick answer: Dhanteras falls on Friday, 6 November 2026. As of 25 October 2026, Lokazen's census counts 2,027 active jewellery outlets in Bangalore, and only 119 (5.9%) sit inside malls. South Bangalore holds the most at 683. New-age brands such as BlueStone, CaratLane and GIVA put one in five stores in malls.

Why are jewellers opening stores in Bangalore before Dhanteras 2026?

Dhanteras is the biggest gold and jewellery buying day of the year, and in 2026 it falls on Friday, 6 November, with Diwali on 8 November (Economic Times, 24 Oct 2026). Brands time openings and offers so the new store has two to three weeks of walk-ins before the peak. October 2026 has been busy in Bangalore:

So where do these stores land against the jewellers already trading? Here is the map.

Which part of Bangalore has the most jewellery stores?

Active jewellery outlets by zone

1,745 zone-tagged outlets of 2,027. Lokazen census, 25 October 2026.

South
683 · 39.1%
East
390 · 22.3%
North
283 · 16.2%
Central
273 · 15.6%
West
116 · 6.6%
South Bangalore alone holds more jewellers than East and Central combined (663).

South Bangalore leads with 683 outlets, 39.1% of zone-tagged jewellers. That reflects Jayanagar, Basavanagudi, JP Nagar and the Kanakapura Road belt, where family gold buying is strong and wedding demand is steady. West Bangalore is thinnest at 116.

Which Bangalore localities are the jewellery hotspots?

Jayanagar is in a league of its own at 131 outlets, nearly double second-placed Rajajinagar (68). That is the context for Joyalukkas choosing Jayanagar for a second store: shoppers there come to compare, so being one of many is the point. Marathahalli (59) and Yelahanka (53) are the biggest jewellery pockets outside the old south and west cores.

Do jewellery brands prefer malls or high streets in Bangalore?

High streets, by a wide margin. Only 119 of 2,027 active jewellery outlets (5.9%) are inside a mall. Buyers want to compare prices and designs across several stores on one stretch, and big-ticket gold purchases favour a familiar street showroom with parking.

Nineteen heritage chains, including Tanishq, Malabar, Kalyan, Bhima and Joyalukkas, run 171 outlets. Twelve new-age brands, including BlueStone, CaratLane, GIVA, Shaya, Mia and Palmonas, run 168. The new-age group puts 20.8% of stores in malls against 11.1% for heritage chains and 3.9% for independents.

BlueStone (39), CaratLane (30) and GIVA (27) now match or beat Tanishq (27) on store count in the city. Independent and regional jewellers still dominate, though: 1,688 outlets across 1,438 brands. For the wider shift of online-first brands into stores, see D2C brands going offline in 2026.

How close are Bangalore jewellers to the metro?

322 jewellery outlets (15.9%) sit within 500 m of an operating metro station, and the median jeweller is about 1.2 km from one. Jewellery is mostly a planned, destination trip, so metro access matters less than for cafes or QSR. The new Pink Line stations still add walk-in options in Hulimavu, which had 17 jewellery outlets within 800 m of its station in our 24 Oct census: see our Pink Line station-by-station shop map.

What should jewellery brands brief before the next festive season?

  • Join a cluster, do not avoid it. Jayanagar, Rajajinagar and Basavanagudi together hold 259 outlets. Comparison shoppers walk the strip.
  • Use malls for lightweight and lab-grown lines. New-age brands already run 20.8% of stores in malls, where gifting and self-purchase traffic is higher.
  • Look at growth pockets. Marathahalli, Yelahanka, KR Puram and Whitefield each hold 33 to 59 jewellers, with newer residential catchments around them.
  • Open before mid-October. October 2026 openings landed two to five weeks ahead of Dhanteras to build walk-ins before the peak.

What does this mean for property owners?

A ground-floor unit with clean frontage on a jewellery strip is one of the most sought-after formats in the city: jewellers want visibility, security and space for a vault and back office. If you own one in Jayanagar, Rajajinagar, Basavanagudi, Malleshwaram or the Kanakapura Road belt, name the strip and the frontage width in your listing.
