Quick answer: IKEA opens an 80,000 sq ft city store at Konanakunte Cross on Kanakapura Road on 5 Nov 2026. As of 31 Oct 2026, Lokazen counts just 18 home, decor and mattress stores within 3 km of the Konanakunte Cross metro station, against 2,214 active outlets of all kinds. The gap is complementary home retail, not another furniture showroom.

What is IKEA opening at Konanakunte Cross, and when?

IKEA's second Bengaluru store is a city-centre format at Purva Zentech Business Park on Kanakapura Main Road, within walking distance of the Konanakunte Cross station on the Green Line. It opens on 5 Nov 2026, Moneycontrol reported, about four and a half years after the 4.6 lakh sq ft Nagasandra store opened in June 2022.

A city store is built for shorter, more frequent trips than a big-box store on the edge of town. That changes who benefits nearby: the neighbours of a weekly-visit store look different from the neighbours of a twice-a-year trip.

How many home and decor stores does Bangalore have?

Fewer than most people assume. Lokazen's census counts 409 active home, decor, furniture and mattress stores across Bangalore, run by 111 brands and independents. That is 0.9% of the 47,159 active outlets we track.

  • Mattresses lead the chains. Sleepwell has 86 outlets, The Sleep Company 31, King Koil 20 and Wakefit 14.
  • Rental and online-first brands are physical too. RentoMojo has 30 outlets, Furlenco 20 and Pepperfry 12.
  • Furniture showrooms are a short list. Nilkamal 21, Godrej Interio 17, Home Centre 14, Home Komforts 12, Urban Ladder 7 and Damro 7.
  • Malls hold few of them. Only 31 of 409 (7.6%) sit inside a mall.
  • About three in ten are near the metro. 92 of 316 with a measured distance (29.1%) are within 1 km of an operating station.

What already sits around Konanakunte Cross?

A busy everyday retail belt with very little home retail in it.

3 km2,214180.8%
5 km5,556480.9%
  • Within 1 km, five home stores. The Sleep Company (about 90 m), Home Centre (about 200 m), Pure Home + Living (about 300 m), Furlenco and Sleepwell (about 400 m each).
  • Forum South Bengaluru anchors the cross. 200 active outlets in our census sit in the mall, three of them home stores.
  • The 3 km mix is everyday spending. 341 apparel, 247 salon, 199 restaurant, 185 cafe, 171 electronics, 139 bakery and 129 jewellery outlets.

The wider pocket covers J. P. Nagar, Kumaraswamy Layout and Konanakunte. Our Jayanagar and J. P. Nagar guide and Banashankari and Padmanabhanagar guide cover the high streets next door.

Did IKEA Nagasandra create a home retail cluster?

Not by our count. Within 3 km of Nagasandra, Lokazen counts 320 active outlets and only 2 home or decor stores, and 4 within 5 km, four years after IKEA opened there. A big-box store on the city edge pulls planned trips straight to its own car park. The city store is different: it sits next to a metro station, a mall and dense neighbourhoods, so the visit can spill onto the street.

We cannot yet measure that spillover, and nobody should promise it. What the data does show is that the Kanakapura Road pocket has the everyday footfall Nagasandra never had, and almost none of the home categories that sell alongside furniture.

Which home brands should look at Kanakapura Road now?

Brands that sell what IKEA does not, or that win on service and fitting. A direct copy of IKEA's range will lose on price and choice.

What should property owners near Konanakunte Cross do?

Home brands want ground-floor or first-floor units with wide frontage, parking and a loading path for deliveries. Owners on Kanakapura Main Road, around Doddakallasandra and Konanakunte, and on the J. P. Nagar side roads hold the space this category is short of. Metro access helps; our analysis of how Namma Metro affects commercial rents explains why. Lokazen's rent records date from April 2026, so we do not quote a current rent; our area-wise commercial rent guide has dated benchmarks.
